Beer Tip of the Week - Episode 15 - Beer is better with buddies.

Had to go short and sweet this week.  I have a lot on my plate right now.  But I hope this tip is helpful to everyone out there.

God created us to enjoy beer?!

Beer Tip of the Week - Episode 14 - How to put some lime in your beer.

Some people might think that putting some lime in your beer is as easy as squeezing a little lime into your bottle.  But thre is one more step that you need to do.

MIA - Why I haven’t posted anything this week.

Hey Everyone,

I write this from my iPhone while I’m at Discount Tire. This has been a crazy week. It’s been one thing after another. It has been a definate drinking week. :)
To make a long story short. We were given a vehicle that broke down. So we broke down and borrowed some money from our family to buy another vehicle. After buying that vehicle we found out that it needed new struts, engine mounts, and a new tire (a nail went through the bottom and the wall). So my world has been revolving around car troubles this week.

But during all this there have been some wonderful constants. God has provided and opened doors. Even though the van we bought has some minor issues we got it for $7,700 under blue book and the I can fix all the issues myself. My wife has been so understanding, supportive, and patient. Asa has done awesome and is constantly been cheering us up with wonderful smiles. The beer has been cold (I have to mention beer :) ).

Don’t worry though. There will be a Beer Tip of the Week. So don’t star rioting just yet.

To the Glory of God,

Greg

You found me how?

Over the past few months it has been really cool to see people find theBeerean.com.  Everyone has gotten here through various avenues such as twitter, my comments on other sites, some link love from other bloggers, ect.  But I have started to get a large increase of people coming hear from search results (I must have some mad SEO skillz).

Most people have found theBeerean.com with searches you could expect.

Can Christians drink beer?
How many beers can I drink before I get drunk?

But there have been a few that have caught me off guard and made me laugh.  So I thought I would share with you guys a few of the off center search results that have landed people at theBeerean.com.

can i drink light beer and take alli

I would say no.  Not because of the “alli” part, but because of the “light.”  Light beer is an abomination.  If you want to drink a beer that is low on calories, drink a Guinness….oh and ask your pharmacist about the Alli part.

“kevin max” alcohol

This one is new for me.  I’ve heard of and tried Monk’s Ale, but I’ve never heard of Kevin Max Alcohol.  I can only imagine the names for their line.  Jesus Freak Jin…Free at Last Firewater…  Come to think of it…a lot of their songs did have some double entendre with alcohol.

What if I Stumble
Like it, Love it, Need it

Just think about it.

alcohol crap

I write a lot of crap about alcohol, but I don’t think I’ve done a post about alcohol crap yet.  Honestly I thought it came out in urine and sweat.  I’m not going to do the research to find out if I’m wrong or not though.

horny in church

Um is this a question or a statement?  If it’s a question, yes many a time.  If it’s a statement, then um…I can’t help you.

a truely extrodinary nut sack

I have to say that this won the award for most random search result to get someone to theBeerean.com.  It works because of one twitter post, but I still think it is very random.  If you found theBeerean.com by using this search, I’m sorry to let you know that you will never see a truly extrodinary or ordinary nut sack here.  Sorry.

Beer Tip of the Week - Episode 13 - How to clean your beer glass.

Beer Tip of the Week gives tips that focus on the entire beer drinking experience.  We focus on tips for everything from buying your beer (coming in a future episode) to cleaning your glasses when you’re done.  This episode focuses on the later.

I learned this little trick for how to clean my beer glasses just recently.  Before I came across bottle brushes I was trying my best to get a rag down to the bottom of my glasses.  Now I simple use a bottle brush.  I honestly thought having a kid would hinder my drinking experience…but I was wrong.

The Gospel of Good Beer

Beer 101 - Beer Glassware - Pint Glass

When I think about going out and getting a nice cold-one, I always picture it in a pint glass.  In my mind, the pint glass is the most universal of all beer glasses.  Almost every bar I’ve been in….actually ever bar I’ve been in uses a pint glass to serve their beer in it.

There are a lot of reasons why the pint glass might be so popular.  They are cheap to make, easy to store, easy to drink out of, and are not as fragile as other glassware.  The pint glass seems to be the workhorse of the beer glass world.

The pint glass is characterized by it’s nearly cylindrical shape with a wide-mouth and a slight taper from top to bottom.  It comes in two standard sizes. The 16-ounce is the most common, but the 20-ounce would be more popular (obviously).  A 20-ounce pint glass can be recognized by the slight ridge towards the top of the glass which helps with handling and stacking.

The list of beer styles that are good in a pint glass is quite long.  Name a beer and it’s probably going to work well with a pint glass. This is why I would recomend any person wanting to start their beer glass collection should start with pint glasses.

The God Glorifying Beer Drinker

I end each Beer Tip of the Week with the verse, “whether you eat or drink, do it all to the glory of God.”  But what does that mean…how do we drink to the glory of God?  How can someone be a God glorifying beer drinker.  I hope that I have given you some insight into this arena here already, but I hope to be more focused on this topic over the next few weeks in a series on the God glorifying beer drinker (I honestly have no idea how many posts I’ll do on this).

Here is my major concept that I live by (most of the time).  There are things in this world that can be used to either do evil or do good.  Photography, sex, sleeping, running, watching tv, graphics design, surfing the net, eating and drinking are all neutral in and of themselves.  Therefore they can be used to either glorify God or drag His name through the mud.  Therefore I want to try to use everything in my life to glorify God.  I want everything that is neutral in my life to be used to point myself and others to Jesus.

But the major question is how do we do this?  How do I drink beer to the glory of God?  I have some major thoughts on this, but before I start posting on this I want to pose this question to you….do you glorify God with your drinking?  Have you even thought about how to glorify God with your passion for beer?  Do you think it is even possible?

Beer 101 - Beer Bottle Labels

Today is going to be short and sweet. Have you ever wondered why once your beer bottle gets a little sweaty the label will pull right off (on about 90% of beer bottles).  This is because they are designed to come off.

The beer bottling process as we know it today (including the adding of labels) was created in Europe.  Since Europeans aren’t as wasteful as the U.S., they wanted to be able to reuse their bottles (this is also why some beer bottles have reusable stoppers).  So they used a water soluble glue to put their labels on the bottles.  When the tasty beverage was consumed, the label was removed and the bottle was cleaned and reused.  The process continues on today.
