What is a Beerean?

The reality is that a Beerean is a word that I made up (Beer + Bereans from the Bible = Beerean). It actually started out as a joke with a friend, but this joke turned into something greater.

This lowly word became a label…no, a mantra…no, a way of being (patriotic music begins in the background..light strings and percussion). Too long have the followers of Christ had to hide their love for beer (trumpets join in). Too long have those that go by the name of Christian had to put their beer in a secret fridge in the garage (full orchestra joins in). Too long have we had to stand by and idly watch as others have enjoyed the glorious brew given by God. Well no more (orchestra swells to triumphant finish).

I…am…a…Beerean!

Ok…now that I’m done with that, the great thing about making up your own words is that you can then determine their meaning. So here is the official definition of a Beerean.

Beerean [bɪər-iÉ™n] – noun

a person who finds their whole passion, worth, and salvation in Jesus Christ and seeks to ever increase in their knowledge and enjoyment of beer.

In layman’s terms, a Beerean is a Christian who loves beer. Well more than just loves beer. They want to grow in their knowledge of beer. Like the Bereans of the Bible, they want more than just the surface level info going out on the streets. They seek to check things out for themselves personally.

So to all my fellow Christ followers out there, if you love Jesus and love beer, I bestow on you the name of Beerean. Wear it with pride (but in a humble way).
